A pintle chain is a type of chain primarily used to transmit power from the engine to the drive system on riding lawn mowers, tractors, and other equipment. Here are some key things to know about pintle chains:

* Construction: Pintle chains consist of interconnecting links with one end of each link shaped like a pin/rod and the other end shaped like a cup or socket to accept the pin of the next link. This allows them to flex and turn corners.

* Drive Mechanism: One end of the pintle chain is connected to the output shaft of the engine/transmission, while the other end connects to the drive axle/wheels. As the engine runs, it rotates the chain to transfer power.

* Material: Chains are typically made of hardened steel for strength and durability. Roller chain designs are also used which have bushings inside the links.
