2. Jack up the trailer
To change the tire on the trailer, you need to jack it up first. Here are the operating methods:
a. Park the trailer on level ground and set the parking brake.
b. Place the jack under the trailer frame, close to the tire to be replaced.
c. Lift the trailer until the tires are off the ground. You may need to place a plug under the jack to stabilize it.
3. Remove the old trailer wheels
It is also important to remove the old wheels when changing trailer tires. This will ensure that the new tires are properly seated and that the weight of the trailer is evenly distributed. Here is how to remove an old wheel:
a. Use a socket wrench to remove the lug nut from the wheel.
b. Pull the wheel off the axle.
c. Check the axle for any damage or wear, and replace it if necessary.
4. Check the wheel hub
It is very important to check the wheel hub when changing trailer tires. The trailer hub is the position where the wheels are positioned and connected to the axle. If the wheel hub is damaged, it may cause the wheel to come off during driving.
Trailer hub
Here is how to inspect the trailer hub: a. Visually inspect the hub for any cracks or damage. b. Feel if there are sharp edges on the outside of the wheel hub. c. Check if the connecting bolts are tight and intact. b. Rotate the wheel by hand to see if it can rotate freely on the wheel hub. d. If you have a digital multimeter, you can check the electrical continuity between the connecting bolts and the axle. This will tell you if one of the electrical connections is faulty.
5. Install new trailer wheels
Installing new trailer tires is a simple process, but there are a few things to remember. Firstly, align the new wheel with the holes on the trailer hub. Secondly, check the wheel bearings and lubricate them if necessary. Once everything is ready, tighten the lug nuts and place the trailer back on the ground. Finally, inflate the tires to the appropriate pressure.
